Gooseneck Trailer Hitches utilize a forward coupler that hooks onto a 2 5/16 or 3" hitch ball mounted to the bed of a pickup or flatbed truck. This allows for tighter turning and heavier loads. Goosenecks are widely used for horse and livestock trailers as well use commercial towing. When not in use they allow access of basically the entire bed of the truck.

Todays modern gooseneck hitch consists of a mounting system which is directly attached to the frame of a truck with a removable turnover hitch ball that in most cases stores upside down in the hitch, leaving the bed of a truck flat and completely usable for hauling etc. Safety chains are easily attached to spring loaded U-bolts which retract into the truck bed when not in use.

The ball is removed by pulling a handle from the wheel well which removes a spring loaded pin, allowing easy removal and replacement of the ball. This is especially helpful as different sized and offset balls can be used if necessary as well as Gooseneck Adapters such as the B&W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch and the Reese HI-Rise which are designed to convert a gooseneck to a fifth wheel towing system.
