Trailer Draws Power Through the Vehicles Light Circuits

Trailer Draws Power Directly From Tow Vehicles Battery

-
The tail, turn and stop light circuits of today's vehicle are
manufactured with light gauge wire, designed to carry only enough
current to supply the lights the vehicle is equipped with. Sensitive
electronic devices such as "lamp-out" sensors are designed to
monitor the vehicle's electrical system and warn the driver of
problems with the system. The additional load of trailer lights on
these sensors can cause them to react falsely and in some cases,
lead to failure.
-
ModuLite trailer light power modules provide power to the trailer
lights directly from the tow vehicle's battery. By directly powering
the trailer lights, the tow vehicle's tail, turn and stop lights are
not exposed to any additional loads.
-
ModuLite is designed for use on vehicles that have separate turn and
stop light circuits and converts their signals into those needed by
standard trailer wiring. Hazard flasher override circuitry is also
included, illuminating the trailer brake lights when the tow vehicle
hazard flashers are in operation. ModuLite can additionally be used
on any vehicle with a standard 2-wire system requiring a reduction
of load on it's electrical system.
-
ModuLite eliminates the need for a heavy-duty flasher, as the power
for the trailer lighting is supplied directly from the tow vehicle's
battery and not through the vehicle's electrical system. ModuLite
products are capable of providing up to 20 amps of power per circuit
to the trailer lights.
ModuLite products are required when towing with
any of the following:
-
Any vehicle equipped with lamp-out
sensors or other electronic devices that could be damaged by attaching
trailer lights directly to the tow vehicle's electrical system. The
trailer being towed is equipped with more than one light assembly per
side.
-
The trailer being towed is
equipped with multiple clearance and running lights that may pose an
increased load on the tow vehicle's electrical system. Is this the only
vehicle the driver will ever tow? Future towing needs change and in
time, a ModuLite may be required.
Vehicle Manufacturers caution
against adding additional loads to electrical circuits. Always consult
the vehicle's owners manual when installing trailer wiring. The
following are just two examples from vehicle owner's manuals:
Jeep Grand Cherokee
"Do not connect a trailer lighting system directly to the lighting
system of your vehicle. Use an approved trailer wiring harness. Failure
to do so could damage the vehicle electrical system and/or result in
personal injury."
Dodge Ram Pickup
"Towing a trailer equipped with more than the standard lighting
(turn, tail, stop and back-up lamps) may cause an abnormally high
electrical draw through the headlamp switch, causing the switch to
fail."
ModuLite Protector
installs in less than 1 hour!
